Juneau, the capital of Alaska, was founded during a gold rush in 1880. Today, the former gold-mining town counts among its riches some of Alaska's most spectacular scenery. Nestled at the foot of Mt. Juneau in the Alaska Panhandle, it faces the water from the mainland side of Gastineau Channel. Several magnificent fjords are located along the channel coast, and the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, a favorite of visitors, is nearby.

When gold was discovered in the Klondike region of the Yukon Territory (just across the border from Alaska), it resulted in the historic Gold Rush of 1898. As thousands of gold-crazed adventurers sought the best starting point for their arduous trek, they found the deepest penetration possible by boat was at the northern tip of the Lynn Canal. This is how Skagway was born.

Ketchikan is an Alaskan city facing the Inside Passage, a popular cruise route along the state's southeastern coast. It's known for its many Native American totem poles, on display throughout town. Nearby Misty Fiords National Monument is a glacier-carved wilderness featuring snowcapped mountains, waterfalls and salmon spawning streams. It's also home to rich wildlife including black bears, wolves and bald eagles.

 

Respite Sessions – Disney Cruise Line ONLY

Background
Disney used to allow our staff to integrate with their staff in their Youth Center at all times their Youth Centers were open which were considered “Drop-off” times, where you would sign your children into the Disney Staff care. Parents were also allowed to join their children in the Youth Center whenever they wished.  This allowed us to have easy continuous respite session times with the AotS Staff.

Policy Change
Disney now has two kinds of sessions in their Youth Centers. 
1. “Drop-Off” times where you sign your children into the care of the Disney Staff, as they used to, except adults (parents) and our AotS staff are not allowed in the Youth Center during these times for any extended period of time any more.
2. “Open Sessions” where you cannot “sign-in” your children into their care, but their staff open the center for free unsupervised play time and at least one parent/guardian must remain with each child.  All adults, including parents and the AotS Staff, can attend.

Our Efforts
We continue to work with Disney in trying to get this changed to once again allow our AotS Staff in their Youth Centers at all times (including their regular “Drop-Off” times), but until then, we have implemented the following solution. 

Our Solution
In order to still provide Respite within the Youth Centers for your children with Special Needs to enjoy, we will have Respite Sessions within the Youth Center while they have “Open Sessions”, and you will be able to sign them into our AotS Staff care.  There most likely will be a reduced number of Respite Sessions and/or length of time of Respite Sessions (than we normally provide on all other cruise lines), due to the lack of appropriate and available venues onboard Disney Ships.  Your AotS Cruise schedule (which you will receive on Day 1), will list the respite times where you can drop your children off and sign them into our care, both in the Youth Centers during their “Open Session” times, and/or at other times in other Venues where our staff will care for our children only.
