Carter's Cruise

If you get to know Carter, you know that he is an exceptional kid. His speech is similar to a "little professor" and has a smile that will light up a room. Sometimes, we have to be cautious with the way we approach events that others are able to do on a regular basis. Autism affects us both mentally, physically, and emotionally. It is also a financial strain, that affects us particularly because I am a solo parent. Along with Autism, Carter has partially lost hearing due to a recurring tumor in his ear, he has been diagnosed with a heart condition, and he has an eating disorder that stems from the sensory issues driven by his autism. We haven’t had a true family vacation together in several years, because traveling by myself with Carter is not typically feasible.

Autism on the Seas is a non-profit company that allows families like ours to experience a vacation that at one time we would have imagined to be impossible. They arrange specific special needs accommodations with the cruise lines and they provide professionally qualified staff to assist us with expedited port check-in, meal assistance, pool time supervision, respite (time for Carter to be well cared for while I can relax or rest), and many other perks and assistance. Autism on the Seas also provides pre-cruise professional consultation and valuable resources, including connecting with other families for support.
